The End Portal or the Ender Portal is the only way to get into the End and fight the dragon. To accomplish this task you must first kill Endermen. You usually find Endermen in the Overworld. They are sometimes really hard to find so don't get frustrated when you don't. Killing some will give you Ender Pearls. But remember you will need an Eye of Ender to find your way towards the portal. In order to do this you must craft one. Eyes of Ender require Blaze Powder. You can get Blaze Powder buy going to the Nether and slaying Blaze (refer to the Nether Fortress post below). When you have slain a Blaze you will get a Blaze Rod (not always). Once you have found the Blaze Rod, go to the crafting section of your inventory. One Blaze Rod is good for 2 Blaze Powders. Once you have crafted enough Eye of Enders to your liking and obtained diamond armor, sword and pickaxe, you may set out on your journey.
Make sure to bring extra Blaze Powder just in case you run out Eye of Enders. When you do, you may craft some more. When you throw an Eye of Ender (right click) it will fly in the direction of the End Stronghold. Pick up the Eye of Ender and proceed. Repeat the process until it drops downwards. Get out your pickaxe (preferably diamond) and start digging down. When you are near the portal the blocks will start to look differently. These blocks, when mined, will spawn Silverfish. THEY ARE HOSTILE.
When you see an opening, the stronghold should look something like the picture below. If it doesn't, try looking around. Kill all silverfish and destroy the mob spawner. Insert all the Eye of Enders into each slot and it will activate. Unlike the Nether Portal, the End Portal will teleport you immediately so no going back.
