Tips For Beginners: Nether Portals

A Nether Portal is an entranceway to the Netherlands, or the 'Nether.' The Nether is a rather hell-ish place, made out of Netherrack. Fires are visible everywhere, crevices and deep holes litter the Netherlands. Around you are seemingly endless oceans of lava. Above, is the ceiling of this blood-red hell, with gaps dripping with lava. As you look around, you notice Pigmen Zombies. You look above you, and you see a large, flying white object. A ghast. It turns to you, and fires a fireball straight at you.

The Nether Portal contains 3 kinds of mobs: Ghasts, Blazes (found only in Nether Fortresses), Pigmen Zombies, and Lava Slimes. Lava slimes, are of course, usually found in or near lava pools. Ghasts fly around, and can see you from approximately 100 blocks away. Zombie Pigmen are passive unless provoked; aka attacked at.

How to Make a Nether Portal

Materials: Atleast 10 obsidian blocks, flint and steel.

Tutorial: Build an obsidian frame; 5 blocks tall, and 4 blocks wide. You should have exactly six blocks of space left inside the frame. If done correctly, it should like the photo below. Now, right click the inside of the frame with flint and steel, creating a purple sheet. Step into the portal and stand for approximately 3 seconds.

Note: Beware when going into the Nether, be prepared.
